Swords come in a great variety of shapes and sizes: long and straight; short and straight; long and curved and ..... Where is the short curved sword? I don't know what pirate characters and goblins have been using until now, but here is the weapon associated with them - the cutlass.

Please note that the non-standard statistics found on the combat table are explained in the article titled "Rolemaster Weapon Attributes" from the November, 1999, issue of the Guild Companion and additional clarification of Speed can be found in "Continuous Tactical Resolution" from the March, 1999, issue of the Guild Companion.

CUTLASS

The favoured weapon of pirates due to its size and weight, the cutlass is basically a small scimitar. In a fantasy environment small orcs or goblins would no doubt make use of the cutlass. It is a single edged weapon which made it relatively safe and easy to handle. It was usually carried unsheathed and often merely thrust through the owner's belt.
